UPPER WEST SIDE

Stretching from West 59th to 116th Street from the Hudson River to Central Park West, the Upper West Side is a living mosaic of city life.
Young families (read kid-friendly and sometimes stroller-jammed) have long embraced the neighborhood's good schools, convenient parks and what can nowadays only be described as a retail windfall.
There is a marvelous mix of cultures, ages and income groups, all with attitude and lots of personality. The prime enticement is the selection of original, pre-war family-sized apartments and classic brownstones found along most of the tree-lined streets.
Enduring Broadway legends like Zabar's at 81st and Fairway at 74th along with Lincoln Center, the Museum of Natural History and St. John the Divine define the neighborhood.
In more recent years, Gracious Home on 67th, Balducci's on 66th Street and two monster Barnes & Noble at 66th and 83rd Streets are now side by side with the old neighborhood favorites - undeniably adding to the community's patchwork.
There's no dearth of restaurants -including those with kid's menus. An overabundance of health clubs, trendy bars and one-of-a-kind boutiques.
Sadly, gentrification has wiped out the small family-owned shops that once made the neighborhood distinctive, but you can still find everything from good bagel shops to great sidewalk book vendors.
