LOWER EAST SIDE, FINANCIAL DISTRICT

From Chambers to Battery Park, this is home to Wall Street, the stock exchanges and some of the city's oldest and most historic monuments and buildings. It is the busiest of places anywhere in the world by day, and the neighborhood also offers a wonderful neighborhood lifestyle.
Make no mistake - the neighborhood with it's spectacular water views is most definitely back! Businesses have reopened and transportation access is restored. The soaring glass-enclosed World Financial Center Winter Garden is once again open along with many of the shops and restaurants within the complex. The Marriot World Financial Center and Embassy Suites are now open (the Millennium Hilton will follow shortly). Not to mention the stunning new Ritz Carlton Hotel and Comdominiums.
Downtown New York is fully accessible - including the 1 and 9 subway lines to South Ferry and the N and the R to Cortlandt Street - with PATH Service expected to reopen in December. New York Water Taxi now has service between West 42nd Street, West 23rd Street and Battery Park City as well as a connection between the South Street Seaport, Wall Street and Fulton Landing in Brooklyn.
Governor Pataki and Mayor Bloomberg recently unveiled a multi-billion-dollar transit plan, one the largest public transit efforts in New York history that will link all of the area's subway lines and PATH into one seamless transportation network including rail access to JFK and Newark airports.
Two components of the project will move forward immediately: the World Trade Center Transportation Hub and the new Fulton Street Transit Center.
It's the New York Stock Exchange, South Street Seaport, and Trinity Church. Historical restaurants like Fraunces Tavern, Harry's at Hanover Square, the Screening Room and 14 Wall Street are excellent neighborhood dining spots.
J & R's huge selections of electronics and Century 21's discount designer duds.
